A Mini Eyewear Show in Hamilton

By: Neil Moser

Hamilton Eyewear Show | Hammer Time

It has been two years since we have gone on an international buying trip. The trade shows we have attended in the past give us the opportunity to spend time with our favourite people in the industry, talk with the designers about their new releases and feel the electric buzz of energy that happens when many creative people gather together.

In an attempt to recreate a bit of this excitement, Maressa Dixon from View Eye Care, Troy and myself brought together a few representatives from eyewear brands we love and we met in Hamilton. Evann, our friend and rep, safely hosted this very small event, ensuring everyone was vaccinated and screened to participate.

Matt showed us the new releases from Orgreen, a Danish brand that is light, minimal and stylish. We now have their Stainless Steel, Titanium and Acetate collections. If you are looking for a frame that is not heavy yet still resilient, Orgreen’s Titanium collection is featherweight and fiercely constructed.

Evan had two collections to show us: the vintage-inspired Japanese brand Matsuda and the California brand Garrett Leight. Matsuda came through with beautiful polished and brushed metals; with their intricate engravings and attention to detail, Matsuda is seamlessly both timeless and impactful. Garrett Leight brings us a new variety of shapes with beautiful colour shades that are perfect for those who are seeking out a more laid-back aesthetic.

Amy had quite a few new models to present from SALT. Optics. Their frames are handcrafted in Japan and they have introduced some intriguing experimental models that deviate slightly from their typical chill West Coast Cali vibe. SALT. frames are renowned for their comfortable fits and their vast array of complementary shapes and sizes.

Evann is a triple threat with three brands. She showed us new models from French designer Bruno Chaussignand and Italian brands TAVAT and RES/REI. Bruno Chaussignand just celebrated their 10-year anniversary with some beautiful new structured shapes. TAVAT added a variety of new models, including some striking inner-acetate rims to their milled Soupcan collection. RES/REI is still providing us with rich acetate colour blends and some thicker temples – perfect for blocking out the bright lights.

Always Innovating

Our designers are always innovating and launching new models. Call us to book an appointment to check out some of these new frames that will be arriving within the next couple of weeks. We are always adding new models to our online shop too if you need a virtual window shopping break from your day!
